How long will the energy storage last 10? kWh? Table of hours, night and network failure

Data verified 2026-09-25 Each parameter with indicated source - list at the bottom of the article.

In brief

Charged Energy Storage 10 kWh powers the house for up to 10 hours at a constant consumption of 1 kW and up to 20 hours at 500 W. You calculate the time like this: the usable energy of the storage in kWh divided by the average house consumption in kW. ALP 10 kWh on 9,2 kWh usable energy, so at 1 kW it will last for about 9,2 hours.

How long will the energy storage last 10? kWh, depends on its usable energy, i.e. the part of the capacity that the storage can give off: Growatt HOPE 10 kWh - 10,0. kWh, ALP 10 kWh - 9,2. kWh at a depth of discharge (DoD) of 92%, and APX 10 kWh and ARK 10,24 kWh we count on the nominal capacity: 10 and 10,24 kWh.

3 kWup to 3,3 hoursapprox. 3,1 hoursup to 3,4 hours

Time = usable energy ÷ consumption, rounded to 0,1 h (0,1 h is 6 minutes). APX 10 kWh we count on 10 kWh nominal capacity - the card does not provide DoD, so actual usable energy may be less. HOPE 10 kWh: 2 modules HOPE 5.0L-B1 After 5,0 kWh usable. ALP 10 kWh: 10 kWh × 92%. ARK 10,24 kWh we count on the nominal capacity: for modules ARK 2.5H-A2 (SPH kits) we don't have a datasheet for this version, so the actual usable energy will be lower. Without inverter losses, this is the upper limit.

How to calculate for your own home

Divide the usable energy by the average consumption during the hours the house will be using the storage. If the house draws an average of 0,6 kW from evening to morning, ALP 10 kWh enough for 9,2 ÷ 0,6 ≈ 15,3 hours, and APX 10 kWh — for 10 ÷ 0,6 ≈ 16,7 hours. It's easier to compare energy: if from dusk to dawn the house uses 7 kWh, warehouse with 9,2 kWh usable energy will cover this night with a reserve of 2,2 kWh.

Power also has a limit

Capacity tells you how long the storage will power your home, and power tells you how many devices it can power at once. According to the card APX 10 kWh produces a maximum of 5 kW, and for 10 seconds 7 kW. Sets ALP i HOPE they work with an inverter SPF 6000ES Plus with a capacity of 6 kW. From the storage, the house will receive at most as much power as the weaker of the two devices allows – the storage or the inverter.

How much energy does your home use - where to get the numbers for your bill

For the table, you'll need one number: the average consumption during the hours the house will be using the storage. You can determine this in three ways:

  • Electricity bill. Divide the annual consumption by 365 to get the consumption per day; divide the result by 24 to get the average consumption in kW. A house that uses 3,650 kWh per year, consumes 3,650 ÷ 365 = 10 kWh per day, i.e. on average 10 ÷ 24 ≈ 0,42 kW.
  • Energy meter. Record the meter reading in the evening and in the morning. The difference is the overnight consumption kWh — compare them with the usable energy of the warehouse from the table.
  • Device nameplate. Power is given in watts (W). If the rating plate only lists voltage and current, multiply them: 230 V × 2 A = 460 VA – for calculations, use this as 460 W, with a margin. Energy = power [W] × operating time [h] ÷ 1000, so a 100 W appliance turned on for 8 hours will consume 100 × 8 ÷ 1000 = 0,8 kWh.

The power on the nameplate is the rated power, which is the consumption during operation. Thermostatically controlled appliances turn on and off, so power × 24 hours overestimates their consumption. You can measure it more accurately with a wattmeter plugged into a socket or from the annual consumption in kWh from the energy label - then divide them by 365.

Also add up the power of the devices that are running simultaneously. The sum should not exceed the power of the storage and inverter - for APX 10 kWh is 5 kW according to the card. For heating devices, such as a heat pump or heater, check the rating plate carefully: warehouse 10 kWh will only power them when their power is sufficient and the energy is sufficient for the planned operating time.

Night and grid failure - why the result depends on the inverter

On a typical night, when the grid is operational, the storage facility returns the energy it stored during the day to the home. When the home draws more than the storage facility can supply, or the storage facility becomes discharged, the home draws the remaining energy from the grid.

In the event of a grid failure, the storage unit will only power the home if the inverter has a backup power function. A list of inverters used by 10 storage units. kWh from our offer:

During a power outage, you calculate operating time using the same formula, but only for circuits connected to the emergency output. If you limit power consumption to 500 W during the power outage, APX 10 kWh enough for up to 20 hours, and with 2 kW — up to 5 hours.

Emergency power is also a requirement for the subsidy: the Home Energy Storage program requires that the inverter or set of devices enable island operation, meaning the storage system can power the home during a grid outage. The program's terms are described in this article. home energy storage (PME 2), and the MOD-HU series — in hybrid inverter guide Growatt.

Winter or summer - when magazine 10 kWh enough for a shorter time

The storage capacity remains constant throughout the year. What changes is the amount of energy it receives and the amount the house uses. The storage returns as much as it previously absorbed: if the photovoltaic system charges it to half capacity on a cloudy day, at night you have half the time available from the table.

The second issue is temperature. According to the catalog cards:

  • APX HV Battery 2.0 — operating temperature from −20 °C to 55 °C, heating foil;
  • ALP 5.0L — from −20 °C to 50 °C, heating foil, IP66 housing for indoor and outdoor use;
  • ARK 2.5H-A2 — we do not provide the temperature range: we do not have a catalog card for this version;
  • HOPE 5.0L-B1 — IP20 housing, indoor installation.

Therefore, in winter, count with a margin: if your house uses more energy in the evening and the photovoltaics produce less, check the row in the table with the higher consumption or consider a larger capacity.

When 10 kWh not enough - warehouse 15 or 20 kWh

Choose larger capacity in three situations:

  • Night time consumes more than the warehouse's usable energy. If the house uses 12 from dusk to dawn kWh, warehouse 10 kWh it's not enough, and APX 15 kWh leaves about 3 kWh reserve (counting the nominal capacity).
  • You need more power at once. In the family APX power increases with capacity: 5 kW at 10 kWh, 7,5 kW at 15 kWh and 10 kW at 20 kWh (card, three-phase system).
  • You are planning a PME 2 grant. The nominal capacity of the storage in Wh must be at least twice the photovoltaic power in Wp. Storage 10 kWh meets this rule for photovoltaics up to 5 kWp.
Magazine APXMax power (3 phases)Time at 1 kWPhotovoltaics in PME 2
APX 10 kWh5 kWup to 10 hoursup to 5 kWp

APX you can expand it without replacing the master module: to APX 10 kWh you add modules APX 5.0P-B3 After 5 kWh, until 30 kWh in one column. Larger capacities are described in the articles energy storage 15 kWh i energy storage 20 kWhNeed less—perhaps powering several circuits for a few hours? See energy storage 5 kWh.

Selection in five steps

  1. Check the inverter model on the nameplate - this determines the warehouse series.
  2. Read the capacity and DoD from the storage card; calculate the usable energy.
  3. Determine the average consumption during the hours the warehouse is to cover: evening and night or during outages.
  4. Divide the usable energy by the consumption and you get the operating time in hours.
  5. Check the power of the storage and inverter relative to devices operating simultaneously.

Not sure which inverter you have, or if you have a different brand? Provide the model from the nameplate and ask about selection . Selection is free.

How long will the energy storage last 10? kWh — questions and answers

How many hours will the energy storage last 10? kWh?

At a constant consumption of 1 kW - up to 10 hours in Growatt APX 10 kWh i HOPE 10 kWh, up to 10,2 hours in ARK 10,24 kWh and approx. 9,2 hours in ALP 10 kWhAt 500 W it's about 18,4 to 20,5 hours, and at 2 kW it's about 4,6 to 5,1 hours. APX i ARK We are calculating on the nominal capacity, so their result is the upper limit. We are calculating: usable energy in kWh ÷ average consumption in kW, excluding losses in the inverter.

Is energy storage 10 kWh enough for the whole night?

Yes, if the house uses less energy from dusk to dawn than the storage can return: 10,0 kWh w HOPE and 9,2 kWh w ALP; w APX i ARK less than nominal capacity 10 and 10,24 kWhYou can check your night-time consumption by recording your meter reading in the evening and morning. At 7 kWh for the night the warehouse is enough with a reserve, and at 12 kWh warehouse 15 needed kWh.

How many days will the energy storage last 10 days? kWh?

As many times as the usable energy contains the daily consumption of the house. A house that uses 5 kWh per day, charged APX 10 kWh will power for about 2 days without charging, and a house consuming 10 kWh per day - for approximately 1 day. With photovoltaics, the storage facility charges during the day and releases energy in the evening and at night.

How many hours will the energy storage last 10? kWh in case of a network failure at night?

As much energy as was left in the storage at the time of the outage, divided by the consumption of the emergency circuits - provided that the inverter has emergency power. If by evening the house has already used 3 kWh z APX 10 kWh, 7 left kWh: with a consumption of 500 W, it's up to 14 hours, and with a consumption of 1 kW — up to 7 hours. Turning off unnecessary loads during the outage extends this time.

How many devices will the energy storage supply at once? 10 kWh?

As much as the storage and inverter power will allow. According to the data sheet APX 10 kWh produces a maximum of 5 kW (7 kW for 10 seconds). Sets ALP i HOPE they work with an inverter SPF 6000ES Plus with a power of 6 kW. Add up the power from the rating plates of the devices that are operating simultaneously.

Is energy storage in winter 10 kWh enough for a shorter time?

The capacity doesn't change, but in winter the storage may not be fully charged—it will only release the energy it absorbed. If the photovoltaic system charges it to 6 kWh, with a consumption of 1 kW, it will last for about 6 hours instead of 10. The cards indicate the operating temperature: APX from −20 °C to 55 °C with heating foil, and ALP from −20 °C to 50 °C.

Energy storage 10 kW or 10 kWh — how long is enough?

kWh is the energy that the storage facility stores, and kW is the power at which it releases it. The query "10 kW energy storage facility" usually refers to a capacity of 10 kWh. Such a storage with a constant consumption of 1 kW will last for up to 10 hours (APX 10 kWh), at 500 W — up to 20 hours, and at 2 kW — up to 5 hours. The power of 10 kW has in the family APX only warehouse 20 kWh; APX 10 kWh gives off a maximum of 5 kW.
