Table of Contents:

A 3-phase hybrid inverter is a device that converts direct current from the solar panels to alternating current across three phases, simultaneously charging and discharging the battery. This means a single device serves the solar panels, the battery, and the power grid.

The selection criteria are universal. The examples, parameters, and prices are from a single brand, for which we have complete documentation and in-house product. This brand is Growatt.

Quick Answer - Which Three-Phase Hybrid Inverter for Which Installation?

In short: for a house with a battery purchased together with an inverter, choose the series SPH TL3 BH-UP (4–10 kW, backup power built into the inverter). If you add a battery later or have a three-slope roof, choose the MOD TL3-HU series (3–15 kW, from 10 kW three inputs MPPT). If you have a 48V battery, choose the series WIT HU, the only low voltage series. Above 15 kW, select the series MID TL3-XH (17–30 kW) or series WIT (20–50 kW).

Table 1. Quick series selection. Gross prices and availability as of September 18, 2026.

Who is a three-phase hybrid inverter for and who is it not for?

A three-phase hybrid inverter is for a home or business with a three-phase connection, with panels and a battery purchased now or later. It is not suitable for a single-phase connection or a building off the grid, as these are the applications for single-phase inverters and inverters. off-grid.

Choose a three-phase hybrid inverter when:

  • you have a three-phase connection and want to store energy from the panels,
  • you want to have emergency power during a power outage,
  • you plan to use the battery later and don't want to replace the inverter then.

Select another device when:

Selecting a three-phase hybrid inverter in 5 steps

The selection of a three-phase hybrid inverter is completed in five steps: connection type, power, battery class, backup power supply and number of inputs MPPTThe order matters because the battery class in step 3 narrows down the list of series, and steps 4 and 5 identify the specific model.

  1. Check the connection type and connection capacity in your contract with your grid operator. A three-phase inverter requires a three-phase connection.
  2. Select the inverter power to match the panel power, the connection power and the receivers that will operate during a grid failure.
  3. Select the battery class: high voltage (HV) or low voltage 48V (LV). The battery class indicates the inverter series.
  4. Decide on your emergency power supply: dedicated circuits or the entire house, a function built into the inverter or an external box.
  5. Count the number of roof slopes with different orientations. Each slope needs its own entrance. MPPT.

How to choose power: 5, 8, 10 or 15 kW?

The power of a 3-phase hybrid inverter is determined by three values: the panel power, the connection power from the contract with the operator, and the power of the receivers on the emergency power supply. None of these can be calculated with a single multiplier, so check each value in your installation documents and in the catalog data sheet.

Power of panels. Panel power is measured in kWp, or peak kilowatts. Panel power can exceed the inverter's power. Manufacturers specify the allowable value as a DC/AC ratio, which is the panel power divided by the inverter's power. The series data sheet SPH 4000–10000TL3 BH-UP specifies a DC/AC ratio of 1,5. For other series, read this value from the data sheet.

Connection power. This is specified in the contract with the distribution network operator (DSO). Check this value before purchasing an inverter.

Power consumption of emergency power supplies. During a power outage, the sum of the power consumption of all devices operating simultaneously is considered. The datasheet for each model lists the emergency power output. This guide does not provide these figures. Please check the datasheet for your chosen model.

Each series has several models with different power outputs. SPH The TL3 BH-UP has models of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 kW. The MOD TL3-HU series has models from 3 to 15 kW. The series WIT HU starts from 4 kW and ends at 25 kW.

Hybrid inverter for high voltage (HV) or 48 V (LV) battery?

A high-voltage (HV) battery is the default choice, as it is supported by two of the three available 10 kW variants and five of the seven series. Choose a 48 V (LV) battery if you already have one or want to buy a low-voltage battery for the series. WIT HU. The battery class is assigned to the inverter series and cannot be changed after purchase.

HV (high voltage) refers to a high-voltage battery. LV (low voltage) refers to a low-voltage battery, commonly called a 48V battery. The LV batteries we offer have a nominal voltage of 51,2V.

You can confirm the pairing of the inverter and battery in the tool configurator Growatt: inverter and battery.

The queries "3-phase hybrid inverter 48V" and "3-phase hybrid inverter 48V" refer to the brand's offer Growatt one series: WIT HU. The same power at a lower voltage means higher current. Higher current requires thicker wires between the battery and the inverter.

Battery APX Gen 2.0 consists of the 5.0M-B3 main module and 5.0P-B3 expansion modules. The main module acts as BMS. BMS (Battery Management System) is a battery management system.

One main module with up to five expansion modules gives from 5 to 30 kWh. Series MID supports a battery capacity of up to 60 kWh. Over 30 kWh would MID needs two main modules.

To the series WIT HU no longer offers two low-voltage batteries. These are the following models: AXE 5.0L-C1, HOPE 14.3L-A1. This change is effective from September 4, 2026. For a more extensive comparison of both classes, see the article high voltage or low voltage inverter.

Battery prices are described in separate guides:

Emergency power supply in a three-phase system: UPS, EPS and box SYN

Emergency power is the inverter's operation when the power grid is down: the inverter disconnects the house from the grid and powers selected circuits from the batteries and panels. In a three-phase system, this function is built into the inverter or requires an external box. SYN, depending on the series.

The manufacturer describes this feature with two abbreviations: UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is an uninterruptible power supply. EPS (Emergency Power Supply) is a backup power supply. The difference and transfer times are described in a separate article: UPS and EPS transfer times.

Box SYN This is an external backup box. The model we offer is EU. SYN-100-XH-30. The box costs PLN 1,783.50 gross and is available (September 18, 2026).

Emergency power supply box (backup box) Growatt EU SYN-100-XH-30
Emergency power supply box (backup box) Growatt EU SYN-100-XH-30

When choosing an inverter, ask two questions: Is backup power built into the inverter? Will it cover dedicated circuits or the entire house?

  • Emergency power supply built into the inverter they have two series. Series SPH TL3 BH-UP is a hybrid inverter with UPS function. MOD TL3-HU series has EPS output and box function SYN is built into the inverter.
  • External EU box SYN-100-XH-30 requires a series MID TL3-XH.
  • MOD TL3-XH BP Series has a built-in emergency power supply (EPS) output. Whole-house emergency power supply requires an EU box in this series. SYN-100-XH-30.
  • Door Line WIT. According to the manufacturer's documentation, three models in our offer have the UPS and black start functions: WIT 20K-HU, WIT 25K-HU, WIT 30K-XHU. Series catalog card WIT 4–15K-HU also lists the UPS and black start function. For models WIT XHU from 36 to 50 kW. No confirmed data available - check the model's datasheet. More about this series: emergency power supply from the inverter WIT.

In the MOD TL3-XH series, only the BP variant supports backup power. You can identify the BP variant by a silver sticker reading "AFCI BACKUP" under the nameplate. The nameplate does not include the BP marking. An inverter without this sticker is a standard MOD TL3-XH model without backup power.

In a three-phase system, phase load asymmetry, i.e., uneven loading of the three phases, is also important. Data from the data sheets is provided in the FAQ section at the end of this guide.

Inverter or 3-phase hybrid inverter – is it the same device?

A hybrid inverter and a hybrid inverter are the same device, while "inverter" and "inverter" are two names for the same product, which are used interchangeably in stores and product data sheets. The terms "3-phase" and "three-phase" also mean the same thing, so a 3-phase hybrid inverter and a three-phase hybrid inverter are the same device. In this guide, we primarily use the term "inverter."

Hybrid inverter, battery-ready and off-grid — three different types of devices

Hybrid inverter, battery-ready inverter and inverter off-grid These are three different types of devices, although stores call all three types similarly. The first is designed to operate with a battery, the second allows for adding a battery later without replacing the inverter, and the third operates continuously off the grid.

Hybrid inverter is designed to operate with a battery. There are two series of this type: SPH TL3 BH-UP, WITThe manufacturer describes the series SPH TL3 BH-UP as a hybrid inverter with UPS function.

Battery-ready inverter This is an inverter designed to work with a battery. Without the battery, it operates like a standard grid-tied inverter. You can add a battery later without replacing the inverter. This type includes three series: MOD TL3-XH BP, MOD TL3-HU, MID TL3-XH. The MOD TL3-HU series is a battery-ready inverter with EPS output. In our store, these series are also called "hybrid inverters." They perform the same function with the addition of a battery.

inverter off-grid this is a separate series SPF for permanent operation without a network. According to the manufacturer's documentation, the series SPF works with 48V low voltage batteries. Model SPF The 6000ES Plus from our range is single-phase. These devices have a separate category: inverters off-grid.

Island operation, i.e. mode off-grid, is the state in which the inverter powers the home off-grid. In a hybrid inverter, this state only occurs as emergency power.

Common mistakes when selecting a 3-phase hybrid inverter

Typical mistakes when selecting a 3-phase hybrid inverter include backup power, battery class, and module BMS, number of entries MPPT and connection type. Before purchasing, you can check each of the seven errors from the list below in the data sheet, in your contract with the network operator, or in the configurator.

  1. Confusing the built-in EPS output with whole house emergency power. The MOD TL3-XH BP series has a built-in Emergency Power Supply (EPS) output. Whole-house emergency power requires an EU box. SYN-100-XH-30.
  2. The battery has a different class than the inverter. The LV battery does not fit the HV inverter. The HV battery does not fit the LV inverter. Check the pair in the configurator.
  3. Door Line SPH TL3 BH-UP purchased without module BMS. Battery ARK 2.5H-A2 requires module HVC 60050-C2.
  4. Door Line MID has a battery over 30 kWh and only one main module. Over 30 kWh two main modules are needed APX 5.0M-B3.
  5. The inverter has too few inputs MPPT. A three-slope roof requires three entrances MPPTAmong the available 10 kW models, only the MOD 10KTL3-HU has three inputs MPPT.
  6. Inverter power selected without checking the contract with the operator. The contract specifies the connection power.
  7. Three-phase inverter purchased for single-phase connection. This connection won't work. The first question in the questions section explains why.

Reporting to the DSO, certificates and subsidy for energy storage

You report your hybrid inverter installation to the distribution network operator (DSO), and the required documentation can be found in the "Downloads" section of the product card. These include the data sheet, instructions, and manufacturer certificates, but please check the current list of requirements with your DSO before purchasing.

The energy storage subsidy, i.e., the battery, applies only to Poland. The Home Energy Storage Program, Part 2 (PME 2), is not yet accepting applications. According to witThe government market is planning to open a call for applications for the fourth quarter of 2026. Two program conditions are important for selecting an inverter: the possibility of island operation, which the program understands as emergency power supply, and the energy management system (EMS).

The manufacturer has issued a declaration regarding EMS: manufacturer's declaration Growatt regarding EMS (PDF)The declaration has four limitations:

  1. The declaration does not refer to the NIS2 directive.
  2. Price and weather analysis features run via the AI Smart Scheduling Mode service on the platform Growatt OSS.
  3. The declaration does not explicitly mention the BP variant of the MOD series.
  4. The declaration does not mention the series WIT XHU.

Three articles describe the details of the program:

Frequently asked questions about selecting a three-phase hybrid inverter

The ten questions below concern the connection, subsequent expansion with a battery, battery class, inputs MPPT, work off-grid, price, and phase load asymmetry. Each answer is based on manufacturer documentation or gross prices and availability from our store, as of September 18, 2026.

Will a three-phase inverter work on a single-phase connection?

No - the 3-phase hybrid inverter requires a three-phase connection. Series datasheet SPH The TL3 BH-UP specifies the alternating current (AC) connection type as "3W+N+PE." This notation indicates three phase conductors, a neutral conductor, and a protective earth conductor. The MOD TL3-XH series manual specifies the same type.

A separate group of devices is used for single-phase connection: 1-phase hybrid inverters.

Can the battery be added to the hybrid inverter later?

Yes, you can add a battery later if you choose a battery-ready inverter. There are three series of these: MOD TL3-XH BP, MOD TL3-HU, MID TL3-XH. This inverter initially operates as a standard grid-tie inverter. We now recommend battery generation. APX Gen 2.0.

HV or LV hybrid inverter – which one to choose?

Choose a hybrid inverter with a high-voltage (HV) battery when you buy the battery along with the inverter or add it later. Choose a hybrid inverter with a low-voltage (LV) battery when you already have a 48V battery. The HV battery fits five series, while the LV battery fits only the series WIT HU. You cannot change the battery class after purchasing the inverter.

How many entries MPPT need a hybrid inverter on an east-west roof?

The east-west roof requires two entrances MPPT, one for each slope. All three available 10 kW variants have at least two inputs MPPTThe three smallest models in the series WIT HU have one entrance MPPT: WIT 4K-HU, WIT 5K-HU, WIT 6K-HU.

Which 10 kW hybrid inverter for a three-slope roof?

For a three-slope roof, choose the MOD 10KTL3-HU model, because a three-slope roof requires three entrances MPPTOf the three available 10 kW models, this is the only one with three inputs. MPPTThe 10 to 15 kW MOD TL3-HU models have three inputs MPPT, and the 3 to 9 kW models have two.

Is there a 3-phase hybrid inverter for a 48V battery?

Yes - 3-phase hybrid inverter for 48V battery is offered by the brand Growatt would WIT HU from 4 to 25 kW. Model WIT The 10K-HU is the only three-phase 10 kW variant for low-voltage batteries. The series WIT HU works with three batteries: ALP 5.0L, HOPE 5.0L-B1, HOPE 16.0LM-A1.

This choice makes sense if you already have an LV battery or want to purchase a high-capacity battery in a single module. A low-voltage battery operates at a higher current, so select the wire cross-sections according to the inverter's instructions.

Can a 3-phase hybrid inverter work off-grid?

The 3-phase hybrid inverter can work off-grid, but only as an emergency power supply. This is not a permanent system without a network. The manufacturer's declaration specifies operation in island mode, i.e. off-grid, among the functions of hybrid inverters.

The MOD TL3-XH series manual describes the transition to the mode off-grid during a power outage. For homes without a power connection, the manufacturer provides a separate series SPF, i.e. inverters off-grid.

What is the difference between a hybrid inverter and an inverter? off-grid (he/off-grid)?

The hybrid inverter works with the power grid, and without the grid, it only acts as an emergency power supply. off-grid is a separate type of device for permanent operation without a network, in our offer there is a series SPFThe term "he/off-grid” means an inverter that combines on-grid and off-grid operation. A hybrid inverter combines both to provide backup power.

How much does a 10 kW 3-phase hybrid inverter cost?

A 10 kW 3-phase hybrid inverter costs from PLN 5,324.82 to PLN 6,187.64 gross. These are the prices for the three available models from the brand. Growatt in the shop PVGroup.pl from September 18, 2026. The cheapest model is SPH 10000TL3 BH-UP. Model MOD 10KTL3-HU costs PLN 5,595.45 gross.

The most expensive model is WIT 10K-HUPrices fluctuate, so the product card shows the current price.

Can a three-phase inverter handle uneven phase loads?

This depends on the inverter series, so check the datasheet. An uneven load on the three phases is called phase load asymmetry. The series datasheet SPH 4000–10000TL3 BH-UP declares full load unbalance of the three phases, i.e. 100%.

Series card WIT 4–15K-HU declares 100% load unbalance during emergency power supply. For the MOD series and for the series MID no confirmed data - check the model's catalog card.
