Battery for Growatt SPH TL3 BH-UP - selection ARK 2.5H-A2 (7,68-25,6 kWh) and required BMS

Data verified 2026-08-11 Each parameter with indicated source - list at the bottom of the article.

In brief

Battery for Growatt SPH TL3 BH-UP is a high voltage module only ARK 2.5H-A2 with a capacity of 2,56 kWh and voltage 51,2 V, connected in a tower with a mandatory controller HVC 60050-C2. The inverter limits the continuous charging power to 3000-7500 W depending on the model - this is the starting point for selecting the number of modules.

Battery for Growatt SPH TL3 BH-UP is defined by the manufacturer unambiguously: the entire series of inverters from 4 to 10 kW works with high-voltage modules ARK 2.5H-A2 and requires a controller HVC 60050-C2The selection isn't about choosing a battery model, but about choosing the number of modules in the tower—and this is where most miscalculations occur. This article guides you through the complete selection process: an inverter power matrix for a minimum tower, a table of all configurations with voltages and grounds, a list of prohibited connections, and assembly limits from the manual.

What battery fits the inverter Growatt SPH TL3 BH-UP?

The only compatible battery for Growatt SPH TL3 BH-UP is a system ARK HV: modules ARK 2.5H-A2 assembled into a tower and controller HVC 60050-C2, which communicates with the inverter via CAN bus. The inverter accepts storage in the voltage window from 100 to 550 V, and the entire series is compatible with the system ARK confirmed by the distributor's compatibility table.

How many modules ARK 2.5H-A2 for 4-10 kW inverter?

The inverter limits the continuous power to charge and discharge the battery - from 3000 W at SPH 4000TL3 BH-UP up to 7500 W at SPH 10000TL3 BH-UP. The tower, in turn, has its own nominal power, which increases with the number of modules. The comparison of both cards yields a selection rule: the tower should have a nominal power at least equal to the inverter's limit—any less will work, but will not deliver the power the inverter allows. The "minimum tower" column in the matrix is our conclusion from this comparison.

inverter Continuous charging power Minimum tower (application) Nominal tower power Nominal capacity
SPH 4000TL3 BH-UP 3000 W 3 modules (ARK 7.6H-A2) 3,84 kW 7,68 kWh
SPH 5000TL3 BH-UP 3750 W 3 modules (ARK 7.6H-A2) 3,84 kW 7,68 kWh
SPH 6000TL3 BH-UP 4500 W 4 modules (ARK 10.2H-A2) 5,12 kW 10,24 kWh
SPH 7000TL3 BH-UP 5200 W 5 modules (ARK 12.8H-A2) 6,4 kW 12,8 kWh
SPH 8000TL3 BH-UP 6000 W 5 modules (ARK 12.8H-A2) 6,4 kW 12,8 kWh
SPH 10000TL3 BH-UP 7500 W 6 modules (ARK 15.3H-A2) 7,68 kW 15,36 kWh

Two nuances from this matrix. First, SPH The 7000TL3 BH-UP requires a jump to 5 modules: four provide 5,12 kW, which is less than the 5200 W limit. Secondly, 25 A is the common operating point for both devices: this is the maximum charging current of the inverter and the nominal current of the tower—the tower's reserve of up to 48 A remains unused in this setup. The manufacturer reserves the right to derating current and power depending on temperature and charge state.

When selecting a backup power supply, count on the "rated" energy, not the nominal one: for a 6-module tower it is 13,82 kWh instead of 15,36 kWhThe failover itself takes less than 10 ms.

Tower Configurations - Voltage, Energy, Dimensions, Weight

Battery for Growatt SPH comes in pre-built configurations: the June 2025 catalog card describes towers with 3 to 10 modules. The newer November 2025 manual allows for 2 to 10 modules and adds a configuration ARK 5.1H-A2 with a nominal power of 2,56 kW - we provide both versions directly, because they come from documents with different dates. The 2-module variant does not cover the charging limit of even the smallest inverter of the series (3000 W), so in practice the selection for SPH The TL3 BH-UP remains a curiosity.

Modules System Nominal energy / rated Nominal voltage Height Mass
3 ARK 7.6H-A2 7,68 / 6,912 kWh 153,6 V 740 mm 91 kg
4 ARK 10.2H-A2 10,24 / 9,216 kWh 204,8 V 925 mm 118 kg
5 ARK 12.8H-A2 12,8 / 11,52 kWh 256 V 1110 mm 145 kg
6 ARK 15.3H-A2 15,36 / 13,82 kWh 307,2 V 1295 mm 172 kg
7 ARK 17.9H-A2 17,92 / 16,13 kWh 358,4 V 1480 mm 199 kg
8 ARK 20.4H-A2 20,48 / 18,43 kWh 409,6 V 1665 mm 226 kg
9 ARK 23.0H-A2 23,04 / 20,74 kWh 460,8 V 1850 mm 253 kg
10 ARK 25.6H-A2 25,6 / 23,04 kWh 512 V 2035 mm 280 kg

Editorial note to sources: the instruction table gives a weight of "45 kg" for a 5-module tower - in light of the adjacent values (91, 118, 172 kg) and the catalog card (145 kg) this is an obvious printing error; we assume 145 kg.

What not to combine with Growatt SPH TL3 BH-UP?

List of connections for which the correct battery selection is required Growatt SPH does not allow - any item with a source address:

  • Low voltage batteries. ARK 2.5L, HOPE LV nor AXE LVs are not compatible with this inverter - the compatibility table only indicates ARK 2.5H-A2.
  • Tower without controller. HVC The 60050-C2 and modules are a mandatory set - the manufacturer clearly states that the system requires the purchase of both elements; without the controller, there is no CAN communication with the inverter.
  • More than 4 units on a wall. Wall mounting limit is 4 units including controller; above that, two rows with a minimum spacing of 300mm and the wall must be able to support over 150kg.
  • Undersized DC disconnector. The disconnect switch is built into the controller; if the design requires an additional one between the battery and the inverter, it must be rated at 750/1000 V DC and 63 A.
  • Wires connected to the wrong terminals. The wires are connected to terminals of the same color - a mistake may cause a short circuit.
  • Lead-acid battery kit. The inverter card formally lists the lithium/lead-acid type, but the supported storage kit in our offer is built exclusively on ARK.

The controller measures 650/260/185 mm, weighs 8,5 kg, has an IP65 rating, and operates in the 90 to 585 V range. The communication chain runs from the controller's BMU port through the Link0/Link1 ports of the subsequent modules, and the plug supplied with the controller is plugged into the Link1 port of the last module. The controller and modules are grounded using a 6 mm² wire.

Three purchase items often overlooked in quotes: a cable connecting the system to the inverter (purchased separately from the manufacturer), a floor stand and wall mount—both optional—and an extended series cable for dual-row installations. You can find the controller with cable here: BMS HVC 60050-C2 to SPH TL3 BH-UP.

Tower assembly: wall or floor?

Permissible battery tower settings ARK 2.5H-A2 on floor - minimum clearances of 300mm on each side and 500-600mm between towers
Permissible floor installation of the ARK tower: spacing ≥300 mm, between two towers 500-600 mm. Material: Growatt, instructions ARK 2.5H-A2, p. 13 of the print.

A maximum of 4 units, including the controller, can be hung on the wall, using brackets with a minimum distance of 300 mm from the wall to the bracket and 500 mm from the ground. Larger towers are placed on the floor: up to 10 modules, and above 6, the manufacturer recommends a double-row arrangement. A minimum distance of 300 mm is maintained around the system, and 500-600 mm between two towers. Battery for Growatt SPH It operates in the range from -10 to +50°C, but below 0°C the manufacturer reserves the right to limit performance - in unheated rooms in winter, this must be taken into account in the expectations for the warehouse.

From the installer's practice

  • Mixing voltage classes is the most common pricing error. From experience: offers can combine HV inverters with LV batteries because the series names sound similar. The compatibility table is absolute: battery for Growatt SPH must be HV class.
  • The controller and PCS cable are lost in the quotes. A common mistake is to count only the modules - a missing controller or inverter cable only appears at the construction site and stops the start-up.
  • The Link1 cap is a typical start-up surprise. Without it, the communication chain is incomplete; it lies in the controller box, not the module box.
  • Mass dictates logistics. The largest tower is 280 kg at 2035 mm height; based on real installations, the planned lifting is 27 kg per module, not per tower.

Frequently asked questions about the battery ARK to SPH

Is the battery for Growatt SPH can it be expanded after some time?

The design is modular – the manual allows for a free selection of modules from 2 to 10, and the replacement and addition of components is described in a service procedure. However, the manual does not specify the conditions for combining modules from different production batches or with different mileage – before expanding an existing tower, confirm these conditions with our technical department.

Is the battery for Growatt SPH works in winter in an unheated room?

The operating range is -10 to +50°C, and storage at -20 to +25°C maintains its performance for 12 months. Below 0°C, the manufacturer reserves the right to limit performance—the storage unit will operate but will absorb energy more slowly.

What is the warranty on the battery and inverter?

Battery ARK The 2.5H-A2 has a 10-year warranty. Our verified table lists 10 years for the inverter, while the datasheet lists a 5/10-year variant. This discrepancy is due to the expansion options and is worth confirming when ordering. The manufacturer's European service warranty applies.

What certificates does the ARK system have?

The data sheet lists: IEC 62619, IEC 62040, IEC 62477, CE, RoHS, and UN 38.3; UN 38.3 applies to the transport of lithium cells and may be required by carriers. The controller is CE-EMC certified.
