Battery for Growatt SPF 6000 ES Plus — AXE 5.0L, ARK 2.5L or HOPE 5.0L
Battery for Growatt SPF The 6000 ES Plus must be low voltage: the inverter operates on a 48V DC bank. The compatibility matrix allows for three families: ARK 2.5L-A2 and HOPE 5.0L-B1 and the new series ALP 5.0L with IP66, which replaces the sold-out one in our offer AXEThe AC charging path is 80A, and the PV generator is up to 8000W on two trackers – these are the values from which the kit selection begins.
Battery for Growatt SPF is a more important decision than in grid installations - in an island system, the storage is not an addition to the inverter, but the heart of the system, without which nothing works after dark. In the current offer, the series is represented by SPF 6000 ES Plus — works on a 48V bank, accepts lithium and lead-acid batteries, and the supported kits are built on the LFP families: ARK 2.5L-A2, HOPE 5.0L-B1 and the new series ALP 5.0L, which replaces the outdated one in our offer AXE (end of series on sale). ALP brings what AXE It didn't have: an IP66 enclosure for outdoor use, a heating foil, and a built-in fire extinguisher. The older 3000-5000 ES models have been discontinued; we're leaving the selection section below for servicing existing installations. This article guides you through the selection process from the starting point: the charging currents of each inverter model, the minimum configurations for each battery family, and environmental constraints, which, in practice, are more decisive than price.
What battery fits inverters? Growatt SPF IS?
Correct battery for Growatt SPF is listed in the matrix: it lists for the entire series - from SPF 3500 ES after SPF 6000 ES Plus - three families: AXE 5.0L-C1, ARK 2.5L-A2 and HOPE 5.0L-B1. All three are LiFePO4 with a nominal voltage of 51,2V, housed in a 48V DC inverter bank. They differ in currents, protection ratings, charging temperatures, and expansion method—and it is these differences that determine which battery to choose. Growatt SPF will go to a specific object.

SPF 6000 ES Plus - parameters for choosing a bank

Each battery for Growatt SPF in the current offering, it works with this model. The 6000 ES Plus raises the bar: 6000 VA/6000 W rated power with a peak of 12000 VA, two independent trackers MPPT in a 2/1 configuration and a PV generator up to 8000 W in the 120-450 V range. The AC charging current is 80 A, peak efficiency is 93%, and the weight is only 13,5 kg with dimensions of 460/395/132 mm. The inverter operates in 0-55°C and IP20 - the same environmental requirements as IP20 batteries, so the entire system will live in a single dry room.
Current matrix - current offer and existing installations
In an island configuration, the inverter charges the battery from two paths: solar and grid (AC). Both currents must be covered by the array's current capacity—the "minimum configuration" column is our conclusion from the inverter and battery card comparison.
| inverter | Solar charging current | AC charging current | Minimum configuration (application) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPF 6000 ES Plus (current offer) | — (PV up to 8000 W, 2 MPPT) | 80 A | 2 modules ALP (130 A), 1× HOPE (100 A) or 4 modules ARK (100A) |
| SPF 3000 ES * | 60 A | 60 A | 1 × HOPE (100 A) or 3 modules ARK (75A) |
| SPF 3500 ES | 80 A | 60 A | 1 × HOPE (100 A) or 4 modules ARK (100A) |
| SPF 5000 ES | 100 A | 80 A | 1 × HOPE (100 A) or 4 modules ARK (100A) |
* Models SPF The 3000/3500/5000 ES are no longer available in our current offerings – these lines are for installers selecting batteries for existing installations. The parameters of these units are:
The smaller models have common processing parameters: 230 VAC ±5% regulation, power peaks of 6000/7000/10000 VA for 3000/3500/5000 ES respectively and MPPT 120-430 V with open circuit voltage up to 450 V. AC input voltage ranges are switchable: 170-280 V for computer equipment or 90-280 V for household appliances - in weak rural networks, the latter setting saves charging continuity.
Reference currents on the battery side: HOPE 5.0L-B1 accepts and outputs 100A per unit; tower ARK scales current with the number of modules - 25 A per module up to 100 A; AXE 5.0L in small configurations limits the power to 2,5/3,1 kW with one module and 5,1/6,1 kW with two. Conclusion: a single small module - whether ARK or AXE — will not use the charging track of larger SPF; battery for Growatt SPF in a minimally sensible configuration, it starts with a solar power coverage kit.
PV Website Design - MPPT and generator power
Before the battery Growatt SPF will be included in the quote, check if the PV generator will utilize the inverter's capabilities. The 3000/3500/5000 ES models have one tracker MPPT with one string and accept a maximum of 4000/4500/6000 W of panel power; SPF The 6000 ES Plus raises that to 8000W on two trackers. The range MPPT 120-430 V with an open circuit voltage of up to 450 V forces short strings - from experience: 8-10 modules in a string is a typical ceiling, and the winter increase in open circuit voltage is counted from the lowest design temperature, not from the catalog temperature.
The 93% peak efficiency is lower than that of grid-tied hybrids—that's the price of an island topology with full isolation. In your energy balance, also factor in the inverter's self-consumption at night; with small banks, it can consume a noticeable percentage of capacity, so treat the minimal array configurations as a technical minimum, not an economic optimum.
Surge 2-3x - Engine starts on the island
The island inverter must handle the start-ups on its own. The data sheet specifies peak power: 6000 VA for SPF 3000 ES, 7000 VA for 3500 ES, 10000 VA for 5000 ES and 12000 VA for 6000 ES Plus - in practice twice the rated power for the start-up time. A submersible pump, hydrophore or refrigerator compressor starts in this window. The battery for Growatt SPF has its share here: the discharge peak HOPE is 250 A for 150 ms - the bank must be able to momentarily deliver the inrush current, so in facilities with motors do not go down to the minimum current configurations.
ALP 5.0L - new LV family, successor AXE
Door Line ALP is a modular tower like AXE, but designed a class above environmentally: the IP66 housing allows for indoor and outdoor installation, the modules have a built-in heating foil and an aerosol extinguishing agent. The battery for Growatt SPF from this family operates from -10 to +50°C, subject to performance limitations below 0°C and above 45°C - the heating film addresses exactly this lower range.
| Modules | System | Nominal energy / rated | Rated current / max. | Height | Mass |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ALP 5.0L | 5 / 4,6 kWh | 75 / 90 A | 295 mm | 44 kg |
| 2 | ALP 10.0L | 10 / 9,2 kWh | 130 / 150 A | 590 mm | 88 kg |
| 4 | ALP 20.0L | 20 / 18,4 kWh | 130 / 150 A | 1180 mm | 176 kg |
| 8 | ALP 40.0L | 40 / 36,8 kWh | 130 / 150 A | 2360 mm | 352 kg |
Common parameters: module 5 kWh / 51,2V / 44kg, 46,4-57,6V window, DoD 92%, CAN communication, up to 8 modules in a tower and 8 clusters in parallel - 320 total kWhHeights do not include the stand, and weights are without it—the stand and cables are ordered separately. Certifications distinguish this family from its predecessor: IEC 62619, IEC 63056, IEC 62040, UL1973, CE+FCC, UKCA, UN 38.3, RoHS, and AU-CEC. Warranty: 10 years.
Current conclusion for this series of inverters: single module ALP (75 A) does not cover the AC track 80 A - battery for Growatt SPF na ALP it starts sensibly with two modules (130 A), which provide reserve for both charging paths.
Which family to choose - battery for Growatt SPF in three object profiles
The assignments below are installation practice; parameters have source addresses.
Summer house, unheated room. Two families work from -10°C: ARK 2.5L-A2 with IP65 and ALP with IP66 plus heating foil — ALP is the only one that can also be placed outdoors. Tower of 3-4 modules (7,68-10,24 kWh) covers the AC track with 80 A current SPF 6000 ES Plus and evening consumption of the facility.
Year-round house with boiler room. Classic battery for Growatt SPF in this profile it is HOPE 5.0L-B1: Delivers the highest operating capacity per kilowatt-hour—98% depth of discharge—and covers every model in the series with a single unit. The bank grows in parallel to 48 units.
A farm with plans to expand into a large bank. ALP scales up to 8 clusters and 320 kWh — start from a tower of 2 modules (10 kWh), ultimately a warehouse serving several SPF 6000 ES Plus in parallel (up to 6 units). AXE (clusters up to 400 kWh) only make sense when closing down existing banks of this family.
What not to combine with the series SPF IS?
- High voltage batteries. 48V DC Bank Excludes HV Families — ARK 2.5H, APX AXE 5.0H are different voltage windows.
- HOPE 14.3L-A1. Even though it is an LV battery, the matrix assigns it to the series WIT 4-15K-HU, no SPF.
- Single module ARK at SPF 3500/5000 ES. 25 A of one module compared to 80-100 A of the solar track is the bottleneck of the entire system - the conclusion from the comparison of currents.
- Parallel expansion on retired 3000 ES. This model does not support unit linking; the current offering supports parallel operation of up to 6 units. SPF 6000 ES Plus.
- IP20 battery outside dry interior. HOPE i AXE require a room. It can only be placed outside ALP with IP66 - but the inverter is IP20, so it always stays inside.
- New banks on AXE. The series is on sale at the end of the year - new projects build on ALP; AXE only purchase to expand existing towers of this family.
- Acid banks in supported sets. The card allows lead-acid, but the offer matrix only indicates three LFP families - communication BMS and durability speak in favor of lithium.
Dual-track charging - solar and grid in one bank
The solar circuit charges with a limited current of 60-100 A depending on the model, the AC circuit — 60-80 A. In island practice, both circuits operate alternately: the day belongs to the PV, and the grid (if present) closes the bank at night or during long cloudy periods. Growatt SPF It should accept the full current of at least the solar circuit—otherwise, the solar energy is lost because in an island system there is nowhere to distribute it. Switching sources in 10-20 ms maintains power to the loads without restarting the electronics; the inverter outputs a pure sine wave, so pumps and household appliances operate as if they were connected to the mains. Source cards for the entire series can be found in download center Growatt.
System dimensions and assembly - inverter plus bank
The inverters in this series are compact: 330/485/135 mm and weigh 11,5-12 kg for the 3000-5000 ES models - they hang on the wall above the battery bank and do not require a separate structure. The bank grows downwards or across: tower ARK in a 4-module configuration it is 909 mm high at 112 kg, and the 650/260/80 mm floor stand is a separate order item. Tower AXE with four modules it measures 585 mm and weighs 183,2 kg. Units HOPE are arranged in a column of 130,5 mm in height each.
Plan the layout so that the DC cables between the bank and the inverter are as short as possible – at currents around 100A, every meter of cable causes real losses and voltage drops, which the inverter will interpret as a low bank condition. From experience, the bank should be directly below the inverter, the distribution board next to it, and space for expansion planned from day one.
Operating Temperatures - Complete System Overview
In an island, all components must operate under the same conditions, and the weakest link determines the limits of the system.
| Device | Operating range | Restriction |
|---|---|---|
| Inverters SPF ES | 0-55 °C | IP20 - Dry Inside |
| ARK 2.5L-A2 | -10-50 ° C | IP65 - withstands moisture |
| HOPE 5.0L-B1 | charging from 0°C, discharging from -20°C | IP20K |
| AXE 5.0L (tips) | 0-50 °C | IP20K |
| ALP 5.0L (new) | -10-50°C, heating foil | IP66 - also outdoors |
Conclusion from the table: even with a battery ARK The island system of this series will not live in an unheated shed - the inverter itself requires temperatures from 0°C. ARK provides an advantage where the room can be cool and humid, but the inverter still needs a positive zone. When designing a winter island facility, heat the technical area or accept a seasonal outage.
From the installer's practice
- Count from solar current, not from inverter power. Each battery for Growatt SPF selected "after kWh” can waste peak production. From experience: a set selected “after kWh” can waste peak production because the bank does not accept the full 100 A — the matrix from this article sets the minimum correctly.
- Choose the AC range setting consciously. Switching to 90-280 V saves charging in a weak network, but protects less - power sensitive equipment via computer mode.
- Winter object = ARK. Based on real installations: in unheated buildings, only charging from -10°C ensures that the system works all year round; HOPE from 0°C will stop the intake of energy in frost.
- Document settings upon receipt. Record the lithium battery profile, AC voltage range and charging priorities in the protocol - from experience: after a year, no one remembers the configuration, and service starts with restoring the settings instead of diagnosing the fault.
- Teach your customer how to read their bank balance. Five minutes upon receipt to show the SOC in the app saves phones on the first cloudy Saturday - the island user must understand that the energy in the evening comes only from what the bank received during the day.
- Reserve space for a second inverter. Parallel operation of up to 6 units is a natural expansion path – leave space on the wall and provide a distribution board with spare fields.
FAQ - Battery for Growatt SPF
Is the battery for Growatt SPF can it be less than the recommended current?
The system will start, but the inverter will limit charging to the bank's capacity—both battery cards derating based on temperature and SOC, and in an island, unused solar current is irretrievably wasted energy. Treat array configurations as a minimum, not an optimum.
How much capacity do I need for island operation per day?
It depends on the object profile - from the catalog parameters: unit HOPE contributes 5,0 kWh useful, module ARK 2,56 kWh with a DoD of 90%. In practice, the summer house closes the evening at 5-8 kWh, year-round - in a dozen or so; count from the customer's counter instead of estimating.
Czy ALP will replace AXE at my existing bank?
Not in the same tower - expansion works only within the family. Existing bank AXE you finish with modules AXE from the ends of the series; you build a new bank with the same inverter on ALPBoth families are LV 51,2V with CAN, so replacing the entire bank when upgrading does not require changing the inverter.
Can I switch from ARK na HOPE?
Yes - the matrix allows all three families for the same series, but the bank is built from scratch: no card provides for mixing families in one warehouse.
What is the warranty on the inverter and batteries?
The matrix gives for SPF 2 years with 5-year option; batteries: HOPE 5 years old, ARK 10 years old, AXE 5/10 years. European manufacturer's service warranty applies.
