Battery for Growatt MIN TL-XH — ARK APX and how many modules to choose
Battery for Growatt MIN 2500-6000TL-XH can come from two families: ARK XH from 2,56 modules kWh (systems 7,68-25,6 kWh) or APX from modules 5 kWh (systems 5-30 kWh). The inverter charges the storage with up to 6000 W of power, regardless of the model, and outputs a maximum of its rated power. APX requires an update of the inverter firmware and the EU version of the model.
Battery for Growatt MIN in the TL-XH version today is a choice between two families of high-voltage storage devices - the older ARK and newer APXBoth are modular, both feature cobalt-free LFP cells, but they differ in module size, capacity range, and implementation requirements. This article compiles data from three datasheets and a Polish quick reference guide: the inverter card. MIN 2500-6000TL-XH (rev. 2022-08), cards APX HV Battery S0 for MIN-XH (rev. 2024-05) and cards ARK 2.5H-A2 (rev. 2025-06). We read some of the numbers from the table render at 250-300 DPI resolution because the PDF text layer was losing values - we indicate this explicitly for such items.
Battery for Growatt MIN: what does the inverter itself impose?
Before comparing batteries, it's worth knowing the limitations of the inverter, as they set the ceiling for the entire system. MIN The 2500-6000TL-XH provides three key battery input parameters: a maximum operating current of 17 A, a charging power of 6000 W - common to all seven models in the series - and a discharge power equal to the rated power of the given inverter, i.e. from 2500 W to MIN 2500TL-XH up to 6000 W MIN 6000TL-XH. The storage voltage window is 360-500V on lower power models and 360-550V on higher power models.
A practical conclusion from these numbers (our comparison of values from one table): the warehouse at MIN The 2500TL-XH will charge at up to 6000W but output a maximum of 2500W. When selecting a battery for a small inverter, you're buying capacity, not output. If a customer expects high discharge power, the inverter, not the storage size, is the deciding factor. Another thing on the menu: the backup power function requires a separate accessory—a Backup Box, so "battery backup during a grid outage" is always an additional item in the quote.
| Battery input parameter | Card value MIN TL-XH |
|---|---|
| Maximum operating current | 17 A |
| Charging power | 6000 W - common to the entire series |
| Discharge power | equal to the inverter power: 2500-6000 W |
| Tension Window | 360-500 V (lower powers) / 360-550 V (higher) |
| Battery indicated on the card | ARK XH Battery System 5,12-17,9 kWh |
| Backup power | requires the Backup Box accessory |
Card Contradictions You Need to Know Before Valuing

The 2022 inverter datasheet only lists the following system as compatible: ARK XH in the range of 5,12-17,9 kWh. Card APX HV Battery S0 from 2024 declares directly: "Compatible inverters: MIN 2500-6000TL-XH", for systems from 5 to 30 kWhThis isn't a mistake on any of the documents—it's an age difference: the newer battery appeared after the inverter card was issued. The footnote on the card provides the answer. APX: "MIN 2500-6000TL-XH need a firmware update to work with APX 5.0-30.0P-S0″, i.e. the inverter must receive a software update.
The second condition from the same card is equally important commercially: the series APX It comes in EU and General versions, and "storage inverters sold in European countries only work with the EU model." When purchasing through European channels, this is a formality, but with equipment imported from other markets, there's the risk of a non-functional set. As a matter of principle, we don't base our decisions on guesswork: confirm specific firmware versions and the availability of the EU model with our technical department before ordering.
ARK APX — battery selection matrix for Growatt MIN
Battery for Growatt MIN comes from one of two families, both of which are built from stackable modules, but the expansion grain is different: ARK grows every 2,56 kWh, APX every 5 kWhThis translates into precise matching of capacity to customer consumption and the weight of a single item to be brought in.
| Characteristic | ARK XH (2.5H-A2 modules) | APX S0 (5.0P-B1 modules) | What follows from this? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Module | 2,56 kWh, 51,2V, 27kg | 5 kWh, 385V, 50kg | ARK: A lighter element and a smaller expansion step |
| System scope | 7,68-25,6 kWh (3-10 modules) | 5-30 kWh (1-6 modules) | APX goes lower (5 kWh) and reaches higher (30 kWh) |
| System current | 25 A for each variant | 17 A, peak 27 A for 60 s (power module) | the limit still remains 17 A of the inverter |
| Working voltage | HV system with 51,2 V modules | 380-550 V, nominal 450 V | both fall within the 360-550V window of the inverter |
| Warranty | not specified on the module card | 10 years | confirm the conditions in the commercial documentation |
| Implementation requirements | Compatibility directly in the inverter card | firmware update + EU model | APX: two things to confirm before installation |
| Distinguishing feature | charging at temperatures down to -10°C, remote firmware update | module-level optimization, mixing modules with different SOC and SOH | APX facilitates subsequent expansion with new modules |
The most interesting functional difference concerns expansion over time. APX declares support for mixing new and old modules in a single system, as well as for operating modules with different states of charge and health (SOC and SOH). In practice, this means that adding a module after three years doesn't require replacing the entire stack—an argument that actually changes the economics of the expansion (our interpretation, based on the manufacturer's declaration).
How many modules should the battery have? Growatt MIN — from consumption to capacity

Battery for Growatt MIN is selected using a simple method, based on arithmetic, not on a catalog card: you add up the consumption that the warehouse should cover over a 24-hour period and select the closest capacity from the module grid. Below are ready-made variants of both families—the capacities are taken from the cards; the assignment to scenarios is our practical recommendation:
| Capacity | ARK Configuration | Configuration APX | Typical scenario (practice) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 kWh | 1 module, APX 5.0P | apartment, small evening self-consumption | |
| 7,68 kWh | 3 modules, ARK 7.6H-A2 | house without a heat pump | |
| 10 / 10,24 kWh | 4 modules, ARK 10.2H-A2 | 2 modules, APX 10.0P | house with a heat pump, market standard |
| 12,8 / 15 kWh | 5 modules, ARK 12.8H-A2 | 3 modules, APX 15.0P | house with heat pump and car charging |
| 17,92 / 20 kWh | 7 modules, ARK 17.9H-A2 | 4 modules, APX 20.0P | large house, remote work, high self-consumption |
| 25,6 / 30 kWh | 10 modules, ARK 25.6H-A2 | 5-6 modules, APX 25.0P / 30.0P | small business facility - check compatibility with inverter card |
Note the upper range: the inverter board replaces ARK to 17,9 kWh, so configurations 20,48-25,6 kWh from the card ARK go beyond what is confirmed by the MIN-XH document. Similarly APX above the declared range - card APX we read as a source for 5-30 kWh, but for large stacks, always confirm your configuration with your distributor. Where two documents say different things, we don't average them—we show both values and indicate who decides.
When calculating the capacity, remember about the depth of discharge: card APX gives a DOD of 90%, so from the system 10 kWh you will actually use about 9 kWh in cycle. Battery for Growatt MIN selected "to match" the daily consumption will therefore turn out to be a bit too small - it is worth taking this margin into account when calculating, instead of explaining it to the customer after the first month of operation of the installation (practical recommendation).
How to connect the battery to Growatt MIN — Polish short manual
Quick guide MIN The 2.5-6K TL-XH is in Polish, making it easy to train your crew. The installation highlights include 4-6mm² PV input and battery cables with metal positive and negative terminals, and a mandatory pull-out test—"pull the BAT input power cable backward to ensure it's tight." On the AC side, the instructions suggest 6mm² cables and fully inserting the core into the hole before tightening.
Communication with the storage device is handled by the SYS COM port, whose eight pins are clearly defined in the manual: pins 1-2 are the BDC converter's Enable signal, 3-4 are RS485 communication, 5-6 are the energy meter's RS485, and 7-8 are the BDC communication CANL and CANH. The manual also warns against confusing the COM port connector with the SYS COM connector—the COM port is only for PCI (power control in European models) or DRM functions. However, before powering on, the manual requires a checklist: the inverter and data logger are securely mounted, the ground cable is connected, all circuit breakers are turned off, the AC, PV, battery, and signal cables are connected, and unused terminals and ports are sealed with waterproof caps. This last point is often overlooked, but it determines the enclosure's IP65 tightness in the years to come. Start-up begins with turning on the DC switch under the inverter, then the AC switch, and when the country selection message appears on the OLED screen, set the country by touching the touch button (single toggles, double confirms, holding for 5 seconds confirms the country).
Battery for Growatt MIN: certificates, warranty and working conditions
Battery for Growatt MIN This is a purchase for a decade, so when accepting the installation, customers usually ask the same question: how long it will last and whether it is "on paper." Card APX provides a 10-year warranty for the system and a complete set of standards: IEC62040, IEC62477, IEC62619, CE, RCM, VDE2510-50, UKCA and UN38.3. ARK lists IEC 62619, IEC 62040, IEC 62477, CE, RoHS and UN 38.3, without declaration of warranty period at module level - confirm this parameter in the sales documentation of the specific delivery. The inverter itself MIN The TL-XH has a 5-year warranty with the option to extend it to 10 years, so the set may cover two different periods - which is worth informing the customer about when signing.
Operating conditions also vary and are important when installing in a garage or outdoors. APX It operates in the range of -10 to +50°C, has an IP66 protection class and natural cooling, and can be installed on the wall (bracket) or on the floor (additional base). ARK It claims to charge at temperatures down to -10°C, which in Polish conditions is a real advantage for warehouses in unheated rooms—at lower temperatures, charging is limited by the cell chemistry, regardless of brand. The inverter itself is rated for temperatures from -25 to +60°C at IP65, so it's the battery, not the inverter, that sets the requirements for the room.
What NOT to do when choosing a battery for Growatt MIN
- Don't order APX without firmware confirmation. Map APX requires an inverter software update MIN 2500-6000TL-XH to work with APX 5.0-30.0P-S0 - check this before delivery, not on the day of installation.
- Don't buy APX in the General version for the European market. The manufacturer stipulates that inverters sold in Europe only work with the EU model.
- Do not promise the customer a storage capacity greater than the inverter capacity. Discharging is limited by the rated power of the unit: 2500-6000 W, regardless of how much kWh stands in a stack.
- Do not install emergency power "automatically". The backup function requires the Backup Box accessory; without it, the storage operates solely on self-consumption.
From the installer's practice
- Battery for Growatt MIN has two independent dimensions: calculate the capacity separately (kWh from the table) and power (W of the inverter) - these are two different decisions that the customer usually confuses into one (practice).
- The module weight determines logistics: 27 kg in ARK carried by one person, 50 kg in APX — two. For stacks of several modules, plan for this in the labor estimate.
- Sets from our offer (ARK i APX) include cables and a base - one catalog number completes the topic of mounting accessories instead of collecting them separately.
- Use the declaration of mixing modules with different SOC and SOH in the expansion conversation: the customer can start with a smaller stack if they know that adding a module in a few years does not mean replacing the entire stack.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What battery for Growatt MIN Will the 5000TL-XH be right for your home?
Both families match parametrically: ARK XH from 2,56 modules kWh or APX from modules 5 kWh — The voltage windows of both are within the 360-550V inverter range. The choice comes down to the scale of the expansion and implementation requirements. APX (firmware, EU model). Discharging on this model will limit 5000 W.
Is the battery for Growatt MIN will it charge faster with a larger inverter?
No - the charging power is 6000W for the entire series MIN 2500-6000TL-XH. The larger model changes the output power (up to 6000W) and PV power, not the storage charging rate.
How many modules APX will the system fit and how much does it weigh?
From 1 to 6 modules, i.e. 5-30 kWh; the system weight increases from 62 kg (5 kWh) up to 315 kg (30 kWh), and a single module weighs 50 kg. Wall installation requires a bracket, floor installation requires an additional base.
Can the inverter card and battery card provide different ranges?
Yes and that's exactly what it is here: the 2022 MIN-XH card lists ARK 5,12-17,9 kWh, and the newer card APX declares compatibility with this inverter for 5-30 kWh. The newer document plus the firmware condition is decisive - and in the case of unusual configurations, the distributor's confirmation.
Is the battery for Growatt MIN also works with inverters on-grid MIN TL-X?
No - the magazine connects to the battery input, which only the hybrid versions with the XH suffix have; the card APX indicates as compatible "MIN 2500-6000TL-XH" and the inverter card describes the DC battery input for this series. The inverter on-grid would require expansion on the AC side with another device - it is a different installation design.
Selection checklist
- Determine the inverter model - it determines the power the battery will deliver to the Growatt MIN (2500-6000 W).
- Calculate the required daily capacity and select the variant from the table ARK and/ or APX.
- At APX confirm two things: inverter firmware update and EU model.
- Choose a Backup Box if your customer requires backup power.
- Plan logistics according to the weight of the modules (27 kg ARK, 50 kg APX).
- For capacities above the range on the inverter card - confirm configuration with your distributor.
