Standing seam roof bracket 35mm

Standing seam roof mount for 35mm standing seam sheet metal. The clamp encloses the seam and is secured to it with set screws, without drilling into the roofing—the roofing remains intact, ensuring the roof's tightness and the sheet metal warranty. This is the basic method of mounting a photovoltaic structure on standing seam sheet metal roofs.

The most important features

  • Non-invasive installation - no drilling or piercing of the sheathing
  • For a standing seam height of 35 mm
  • Fastening with clamping screws
  • Works with the mounting profile via standard connectors

Standing Seam Roof Bracket - What to Look for

A standing seam metal roof is more convenient than most roofing systems for photovoltaic installation, as it doesn't require damaging the roof covering. The clamp grips the seam from the outside and is tightened with screws, transferring the load to the roof structure through the sheet metal itself and its fasteners. There's no drilling, no sealing of penetrations, and no point where it might leak after years.

Selecting the correct seam height and shape is crucial. This clamp is designed for a 35 mm seam – on a roof of a different height, the clamp will either not grip the profile or will grip it loosely, making load transfer unpredictable. Before ordering, it's worth measuring the seam on site, as sheet metal manufacturers use different profiles, and a difference of just a few millimeters will preclude the clamp's use.

The spacing of the brackets along the seam depends on the snow and wind loads in a given location and the length of the mounting profile. They are denser at the edges and corners of the roof, where wind suction is greatest. The brackets are connected to the profile using standard T-connectors, so the structure is then built in the same way as for any other roof covering.

With standing seam roofs, the surface on which the sheet metal rests is crucial. The clamp transfers the load from the modules to the seam, the seam to the mounting clip, and the clip to the decking or battens. If the clip spacing is wide, it's the clamp, not the clamp itself, that determines the roof's permissible load. With older roofs, it's worth checking this before installation, as it's not visible from the roof.

Seam sheet metal experiences thermal expansion and contraction with temperature, so it's secured to the substrate with sliding clips. A photovoltaic structure placed on such a roof must accommodate this expansion, meaning it cannot stiffen the roof along its entire length. This is another reason why brackets are placed according to the manufacturer's guidelines, not by eye.

When purchasing from stock, it's worth calculating the number of brackets with an allowance for the design. On the construction site, it's common to shift a row of modules by one spacing, miss a hatch or chimney, and then require one or two more brackets than indicated in the drawing. Buying them later may be impossible because the batch won't be renewed, and a bracket from a different manufacturer for the same seam can't always be connected to an already installed profile.
