Application in a photovoltaic installation

A surge arrester doesn't protect against direct lightning strikes—that's what a lightning protection system is for. Its purpose is to cut off surges that enter the installation through cables: from the power grid following a lightning strike near the line, from induction in a loop created by the module string wiring, or from switching operations within the grid. Such surges last microseconds, but the voltage reaches several kilovolts—this is sufficient for the electronics of an inverter or meter.

Devices are divided into types based on the type of testing they undergo. Type 1 is tested with a surge current resembling a direct lightning strike and is used in facilities with lightning protection systems at the power supply input. Type 2 is tested with a milder surge current and is installed in the main or circuit distribution board as primary protection for equipment. Type 3 protects a single receiver and operates only when a higher-level device is operating upstream.

Three factors are crucial when selecting a device. The continuous operating voltage Uc must be higher than the highest voltage normally present in the protected circuit—otherwise, the device will heat up during normal operation. The voltage protection level Up must be lower than the surge withstand capability of the device being protected. The distance between the arrester and the protected device is important: the longer the cable section between them, the higher the voltage actually reaching the receiver. Therefore, connecting cables should be as short as possible and unnecessary loops should be avoided.

The surge arrester is a consumable item. After a series of surges, the varistor element loses its properties, and the device's condition is indicated by a window on the housing—a color change indicates the element needs to be replaced. Therefore, versions with replaceable modules are popular: the element is replaced, not the entire device, without disconnecting the switchboard wiring.

Surge arrester c 3p dc - what to pay attention to when selecting

When purchasing this item, check three things: compatibility with existing equipment on site, site conditions, and the quantity needed for the entire project. Photovoltaic system components operate outdoors for several years, in full sunlight and with fluctuating temperatures, so the choice of material and workmanship is crucial to the durability of the entire installation.

If you are collecting material for a specific installation, it is more convenient to take everything from one delivery - the remaining items from the same group can be found in the protection and disconnectors category , and all excess stock in the Inventory category.

Where does this stuff come from?

We sell inventory left over from closed projects and deliveries. The merchandise is brand new and covered by the same returns and refunds policy as the rest of our offerings. The only difference is that quantities are limited and will not be restocked—once the stock is depleted, the item will be removed from the store.

Minimum order and price calculation method

This item is sold individually, with no minimum order requirement—the price listed is for one item, and that's how many you can buy. Stock is limited to what's left in stock after closed projects, so if you have a high demand, please check availability before ordering—we don't restock these batches.

Prices in the store are given in net and gross amounts, and logged in wholesale customers can also see their discount.

Delivery and pickup

Orders are shipped from our warehouse. Shipping costs depend on size and weight—small items are shipped as a parcel, while items longer than a standard parcel require pallet shipping, which is visible in the shopping cart after adding items. For orders with multiple items, shipping costs are calculated once for the entire shipment, so collecting the materials for a single order is cheaper than shipping several items separately.

You can also collect the goods in person at our warehouse in Bytomiu — pickup is free. For low-value items, this is often the most reasonable option, as shipping costs can be as high as the order itself. It's worth confirming availability before arrival, especially for last-minute items.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a type 1+2 limiter and a type 2 limiter?

They differ in their intended installation location and the energy they are intended to absorb. The selection is based on a risk analysis of the facility and the lightning protection system design.

Can I collect the goods in person?

Yes, personal collection in Bytomiu is free—you select it in your cart. For small items, this is often the most reasonable option, as shipping costs can be as high as the value of the item itself.

How many pieces are available?

This is a surplus stock item – quantities are limited and displayed next to the product. Once stocks are depleted, the item will be removed from the offer.

Will I receive a VAT invoice with my order?

Yes. We sell on a B2B basis - after logging in, you'll see net prices specific to your group.
