Growatt ShineThe Link-X2 is a two-part kit for remote monitoring of a photovoltaic installation. It consists of a gateway ShineLanBox-X2, which is located next to the router, and the module ShineRFStick-X2 plugs into the inverter. Both components communicate with each other radio frequency in the 860–930 MHz band, so the inverter doesn't need to see the WiFi network—a common problem with inverters in the garage, boiler room, or on the wall of an outbuilding.

Growatt ShineLink-X2 - What to Look Out For
The most common reason for system monitoring not working is simple: the inverter is located where the Wi-Fi network doesn't reach. A boiler room, a garage, a wall of an outbuilding, a basement—in all these places, the Wi-Fi module connected directly to the inverter loses connection or drops it several times a day. The kit solves this differently: the inverter communicates with the gateway via radio, and only then does the gateway sit where the router is.
Radio communication in the 860–930 MHz band transmits through walls much better than 2,4 GHz WiFi. The manufacturer claims a range of up to 120 m, with the actual distance depending on the number of walls and ceilings in the path—in brick buildings, the range should be significantly lower than in open spaces.
A single gateway supports up to 12 devices in the same location, so in a multi-inverter installation, there's no need to multiply the modules on the network side—each inverter receives an RF module, leaving only one gateway. The version with a 4G modem allows you to implement monitoring where a permanent connection is simply not available, such as in a ground-based installation or in a facility without internet access.
The module mounted next to the inverter has an IP65 enclosure and an operating temperature range of -30 to +60°C, making it suitable for outdoor installation. The gateway is IP20 rated, meaning it's an indoor device placed next to the router.
